Hi Woodsy
I was trying to decide what to take pics of...I saw your post on Spanish Space Toys. Good place to start I thought. I believe others have posted these before. But here are mine.
Starting out with the huge Luna Car by Jefe. Nice cable control action vehicle. I'm recasting new springy wheels for mine presently. Disc satellite launches. vehicle lights up.
Next items are lunar rovers and a playset of the Coman Boys. First one is a complete mint playset with a Grey rover and orange trailer bus. Second set is a orange rover with matching trailer bus. There are two versions of the trailer. And various color combinations of the rover. There is also a rocket (which is hiding from me in a tote somewhere in my studio). Thanks.

Wow, those are nice. Especially the yellow/orange one.
ReplyDeleteYes, these are great Bob. The Jefe space car looks huge. How are you casting new wheels?
ReplyDeleteThe white rubber outside of the wheels are all present, and in good shape. The Grey coiled inner wheels are somewhat brittle, and some are broken. I make a silicone rubber mold impression of a complete coiled section example. When the mold is cured. I mix two part resin together and pour into molds. This hardens, and makes a new replacement part. I use this technique for making a lot of parts providing I have a good master part to work from. Some parts are complex enough, I have to create two part molds.
DeleteI'm doing this technique currently for some new replacement parts for series 2 SpaceX toys.
I was just about to ask you how you were going to make replacements!
DeleteI use silicone to copy intact examples too.
Years ago I was featured on ABC TV's Collectors show for my Japanese robot collection.
The cameraman took some of my examples outside to film insert shots. The Director grabbed my Diaclone Giant Robot base and pushed it like a big friction toy...
Perished rubber tank treads flew in all ditections like snapped rubber bands.
It took me a long time to make silicone moulds of the two sizes and cast them in soft Urethane resin tinted black.
I may have to do the same for my Zeroid tracks sometime...
I also meant to say what lovely toys! Those designs are brilliant, so 60's style!
DeleteAnd ...transparent plastic? Sublime!
I have a Comansi set with the small orange buggy in. a nice set. Bill
ReplyDeleteDidn't you make an ANT out of it?
DeleteLoving that Luna Car.
