It's true. You can't possibly have everything as a kid.
I had my eye on something my cousin Andy had. He'd got it from a relative in the States circa 1967 or 8. I'm not even sure you could get it in Blighty!
Yep, envy. Green I was.
The toy was the magnificent and marvellous Strange Change Machine!
He could make his own dinosaurs!
God how I wanted it!
Still do!
Ring any bells?
I always envied the kids who had battery operated versions of toys, as they were too expensive for my family.
ReplyDeleteI had to settle for the cheaper push around, or friction drive ones.
Friction was king when we were kids Mish but I know what you mean. Have you picked up any battery toys since?
DeleteAs spoiled as I was, I was always wanting more, pleading with the parents to buy me this or that expensive toy in the toy store, and wishing I had what the neighbor kids had. One particular memory was of a neighbor kid who had the Multiple Toymakers Fireball XL-5 set - good god how I wanted that! SFZ
ReplyDeleteThat is one heckuva set SF! I agree. Not sure if it was available here in the UK. Deffo not something I ever saw back then.
DeleteMy neighborhood friend had a JR FAB1 and a Spectrum SPC.
ReplyDeleteGreen I was!
In later life I bought a SPC on eBay as a fixer-upper, to try and mollify my childish passions.
I still haven't got around to "fixing it up"...
I can imagine FAB1 envy. Such a beautiful job JR21 did. The SPC too. Send us a snap of your fixer upper Looey.
DeleteI recall a kid at my elementary school had the strange change machine. Burnt the heck out of his fingers during show and tell. A friend had the Cox jeep that was about the same size as the gi joe one and I thought it was great until it crashed and came apart and while easily put back together, it no longer stayed as neat in my eye.
ReplyDeleteHaha, Schadenfreude Lance!
