I caught Skyscraper last night, a 2018 Dwayne Johnson vertical spectacular set in Hong Kong.
As per usual, the Rock saves the day, this time the day being his family ( Scream's Neve Campbell and co) trapped in the world's tallest building and pursued by tooled-up terrorists.
Sound familiar? Yep, comparisons with Bruce Willis's Die Hard are obvious and as the Brucester/ Alan Rickman combo pretty much invented the terrorscraper sub-genre, the Rock's effort would always have been derivative.
Having said that, Skyscraper is a watchable rockbuster and it passed a couple of hours pleasantly.
The height effects were amazing and I had to look away a few times. The giant crane sequence was very neatly done and the crane into the flames scenario seemed familiar. Quatermass and the Pit? Life force?
Have you seen Skyscraper?
Anyways, as Bruce would say jumping off the Nakatomi, yippee kai ay!
I'll have to search this one out. As you may know by now, for some reason like the cheap knock-offs better than the originals! SFZ
