We're very close to Breakaway Day, and the 50th Anniversary of the first showing of Space: 1999.
In spite of it's flaws, Space: 1999 is still incredibly popular with TV sci-fi fans, here and abroad.
Last year in London, fans attended a fantastic Space: 1999 Convention where, along with plenty of celebrity guests .we also had some fabulous displays of original props
Here's a selection of photos I took .
'Breakaway' is a brilliant episode, equalling the best of Star Trek, Dr Who or any other TV Sci Fi series in terms of both script and characterisation, and betters any TV Sci Fi show in terms of Production Design and Special Effects at the time (and, frankly, possibly since ).
ReplyDeleteAdd to that Barry Gray's fabulous score, and it's truly a magnificent show all round.
Sadly, the series didn't continue as well as that set up promised, but watch it again and I'm sure you'll agree, it's like watching '2001: A Space Odyssey' on TV, but with an understandable narrative, and a great premise.
Fantastic !
