I love this cover art on Nod, the gaming magazine issue 34 that I saw online.
It recalls the fantastic work of Kay Nielson, such as his Norwegian mythos and the Lad in the Battle, 1914.
How cool is that?

Neat! I hadn't heard of Nod magazine before. I love Nielson, I did a blog post about him a while back: https://themichlinguide.wordpress.com/2023/03/30/artist-retrospectives-x-kay-nielsen/
ReplyDeleteWunderbar Baron! I love your artist retrospectives. Just read a few. Superb and some new to me. Love your blog. Are you working on a game at the moment?
DeleteThanks, I really enjoy those retrospectives. Jim Fitzpatrick will be coming up soon (I'm working off a list I put together), I have a few of his art books. I have a game on the back burner, and I'm currently working on an adventure inspired by Heart of Darkness.
DeleteNielsons work is lovely, especially for the time. Puts me in mind of the Jim Fitzpatrick book 'The Silver Arm' which details the celtic mythology in a glorious modern re-invention. I think Jim did some album cover work for Thin Lizzy. Bill
ReplyDeleteJim Fitzpatrick. I will have to check him out. I was a big Lizzy fan as a teenager! The boys are back in town!

DeleteThose are some lovely pictures! SFZ
ReplyDeleteI bought a book of art in the late Seventies, which I think may have been a Russian fable. Very Neilson-like and quite beautiful. Lost in time now, I wish I knew what it was called.
