QUICK! Get the insect spray, this place is crawling with mosquitos!!
Well heck, if I'm gonna send photos of the Mosquito jeep and variants I might as well include the Tri-ang/Golden Astronaut Cricket P1.

Well folks, here's yet another Cricket from the collection, the MPC Golden Astronaut Moon Patrol Cricket.
When Tri-ang cut its deal with MPC to sell the Spacex line here in the States, MPC marketed them under the 'Golden Astronaut' banner.
The packaging was changed, some of the colors were changed, and some of the names changed (for example, the orange Tri-ang Forklift 7 became the blue Golden Astronaut Lift Loader). However, in the case of the Cricket, both the Tri-ang and Golden Astronaut versions remained the same.
As Woodsy has already posted photos of the Tri-ang Cricket - which looks the same as this GA version - I've included only a couple of photos.

Ah, thanks for that! Always nice to see some of my favourite childhood toys and their design inspirations!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Lewis! These toys were all new to me as an adult collector. When they came out back in the day, I was already into HO scale model railroading. That being said, I sure have made up for lost time!
DeleteDamn them skeeters!
ReplyDeleteI'm runnin' outta bug spray! :-)
DeleteAlways great to see Ed. One of the most striking of all the GA SpaceX vehicles. And your Cricket fleet is expanding!
ReplyDeleteThanx Woodsy! Yes, the fleet is growing and The Cave is being overrun with crickets :-)
DeleteWhat a beautiful design, a classic! SFZ
ReplyDeleteYes it is Zigg! I'd love to see something like that in real life :-)
DeleteI wonder if anyone joined the Golden Astronaut Club in New York as advertised at the bottom of the card back?
ReplyDeleteGood question Woodsy! I can't imagine too many young 'uns keeping that cardboard backing, let alone reading it and actually joining the club. Still, it would be interesting to see if any of that memorabilia exists!
