My home made Action Man Polar Explorer is finished and already on the plastic glacier!
See what you think.
The sled accessories:
Rear wheel; tiny view master
Lamp: a real little one
Map case and map: a rubber tube and a bit of newspaper
Chest; existing Playmobil toy
Sextant: home made from an old plastic bike
Rope: wool
Clock: my Missus' Grandma's watch from the 1940's.
Medallion: tiny antique cufflinks
Sled: existing Playmobil sledge with home-added handles and side-bars.
There's are loads more extras for this outfit like snow shoes and even a tent but I had to stop!
Brilliant, great photos too.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Kev! It was a fun shoot in the garden.
DeleteGreat work, great photos, and all done at lightning speed. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul! I may take a break now.
DeleteNice! Are you running out of subjects to recreate yet?
ReplyDeleteThanks mate. Not subjects, just superglue and steam Looey!
DeleteBeautiful work Woodsy! You're going to need a separate display case just for your Action Man builds!
ReplyDeleteI know Ed! Thanks for the thumbs up!
DeleteWonderful !
ReplyDeleteBut just questioning the sled.
It looks spot on, but is it in scale ?
Thanks Mish. The sled is an existing Playmobil toy I found in my bits box so its a cheat really and small. I added bigger handles to it and side-bars and used what you once called forced perspective on MB but it still looked small on the 'ice'.
DeleteWoodsy you must have use some magic spell to come up with such fashion statements at such speed. Accessorico!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, thanks Arto, no magic, just superglue! and no Grandkids!
DeleteThat's a very cool adventurer outfit. Instantly recognisable. The diorama you've created for the photoshoot brings this polar explorer to life. For some odd reason I always prefer stories and films set in cold climates. Really ticks the adventurer box for me, Woodsy... Fantastic work!
ReplyDeleteTa so much Tone. The big white plastic sheet came in really handy for the glacier.
DeleteThats way cool - probably the most authentic looking one yet. The only thing I would change is poking out the tiny frames in the viewmaster reel - as the detail draws the eye a bit on the close ups. love the parka - will you make me one? Bill
ReplyDeleteoh and whip him up an ice axe - or repurpose one of the modern ones I gave you!
DeleteI discovered there are two similar AM outfits, which I get mixed up Bill. Polar Explorer and Mountaineer. Mountaineer had the ice axe. I decided to stick to the Explorer, despite opting for an orange smock! As for the reel wheel, I thought about punching them out but the sled is temporary like all my bodgings. Not worth destroying it.
DeleteWhen should we expect "Action Man: The Book"?!?! SFZ
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I'm not good enough for a book SF! A true amateur!
DeleteAh, 'forced perspective' Woodsy. You cunning devil.
ReplyDeleteI have, of course, used this many times in my SFX career, but wasn't expecting it here.
Well done mate. On that basis, your sled is an absolute triumph.
Ha ha! A cunning plan, yes indeed and it was your idea Mish!
