It's Mrs MoonBase and my Ruby Wedding today.
Forty years over the moon.
Just want to wish everyone a very pleasant day.
We got wed in 1984. It was Orwellian. Our witnesses were our friends Pete* and Cath. We had Knickerbocker Glories in Penmaenmawr and honeymooned on Skye.
What were you doing in '84?
🍦
* Pete tragically died in 2021 in Oz. We dedicate our Ruby day to him.
Happy Anniversary, you're 2 years ahead of us! In 1984, I'd just started teaching! We all make mistakes!
ReplyDeleteHa ha. That made me laugh Kev. Big Brother was watching you!
DeleteAnd thanks!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations both. That is a real achievement, I've only been married 34 years.
ReplyDeleteWhat was I doing in 1984? I was single and unattached then. I'd also yet to turn professional as a broadcaster. But I do remember that I was finding music that really excited me.
Thanks Bill. What music was exciting you? By the way, we were married in Conway and lived in Penmaenmawr back then! A Welsh wedding!
DeleteMy late friend Steve Rawlings had just returned from a Merchant Navy trip to the United States and brought back recordings of American FM radio stations for me to listen to and get ideas from. Additionally, it was when the compilation album American Heartbeat was released along with the Van Halen - 1984 album too.
DeleteFrom there, I was inspired to discover all kinds of music which ultimately gave me a unique background for a UK broadcaster. Which resulted in me working on foreign radio stations, before I was offered a job on UK commercial radio.
Fascinating stuff Bill. Van Halen eh, Eddie the shredder! What was on American Heartbeat?
DeleteThe album was incredibly popular, here is a tracklist of the original release... I've played it on almost every radio station I've ever broadcast on. And of course bands like Quarterflash and Asia got me researching up more of their music and looking for similar types of bands.
DeleteSurvivor – Eye Of The Tiger
Toto– Rosanna
Journey– Who's Crying Now
Blue Oyster Cult – Don't Fear The Reaper
Styx– Babe
REO Speedwagon– Take It On The Run
Wang Chung– Dance Hall Days
Boston– More Than A Feeling
Toto– Africa
Quarterflash– Harden My Heart
REO Speedwagon– Keep On Loving You
Kansas – Carry On Wayward Son
Asia – Heat Of The Moment
Split Enz– I Got You
Producer – David Tickle
Survivor– American Heartbeat
Toto– Hold The Line
Classics all Bill! My faves are Blue Oyster Cult, Boston and the mighty Wayward Son by Kansas. Yep, great album! I see what you mean!
DeleteCongratulation! At this time in '84 we were married 10 years, living in NYC, and my wife was very pregnant with our daughter born a few weeks later. It was around then that we saw the very funny first 'Ghostbusters' movie and every weekend there was a different wedding to attend!
ReplyDeleteThe coincidences are stacking up here Terran! My Missus was pregnant in 1984 and after seeing Ghostbusters at Llandudno cinema our daughter was born the next day! Ha ha. We nearly called her Slimer!
DeleteAll the best on your anniversary Woodsy. Only 26 years for us so far.
ReplyDeleteIn July of 1984, I was single and working at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in the Round in Scarborough, as Assistant Designer.
Later that year I would go on to be a Prop Maker at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. Lots of changes for me that year.
Sounds a fab year Mish in a fascinating career. Which town did you prefer, Scarborough or Manchester?
DeleteThey're not really comparable, as one is much bigger than the other, but at that time in my life, I guess more dynamic city living was better for me.
DeleteAlso, the people of Scarborough seemed rather more pompous and self important. So I prefered Manchester.
Funny old Scarborough eh! We are going to Hornsea for a week with our whole family in August. Hope they're not pompous! Can't be doing with it, airs and graces!
DeleteThe theatre's audiences were mostly local hoteliers, businessmen, alderman and the like. Maybe that's why they seemed to think a lot of themselves.
DeletePerhaps the ordinary locals were nicer.
Congratulations, and the best to you! Forty years is a great milestone, and you have obviously forged a lovely life together. More power to you! SFZ
ReplyDeleteCheers SF. It's been a grand old ride and like every couple, lots of ups and downs but in the main a sunlit voyage.
DeleteHeartfelt congratulations! A great achievement and a reassuring example that in this day and age it is still possible to find a lifelong soulmate with whom to share it all.
ReplyDeleteIn '84 I was working as a journalist, and later that year spent six weeks living in London pestering film studios and cinema distributors.
Thanks Arto! That six week stay in London is worthy of a book my friend! Get writing!
DeleteHappy 40th Anniversary to You and Missus Moonbase Woodsy and many more to come!!! On this day in 1984 Me and the Missus Vegas Base were celebrating a whole seven months of married life in Good 'Ol Deutschland! (oh and were already celebrating our first daughter's first month LOL) Have fun and party hearty!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ed. We were eating a Turkish feast last night so catching up today. Sieben Monate in Deutschland! Schön! Our daughter was born in 1984 too, December. They kicked me out at the hospital after the birth! I wandered the streets and went back at visiting time!
DeleteCongratulations, for a wonderful 40 years. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Paul.
DeleteCongratulations Woodsy!. Rubies on Moonbase Central
ReplyDeleteCheers Khus! A Ruby Moon, yes!
DeleteCongratulation a Happy Anniversary, Woodsy. We also have our 40th in September. Have a fab day mate, Tone.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tone and a big thumbs up for yours in September.
DeleteCongratulations Woodsy!! 40 is a great milestone and I'm sure you and Mrs Moonbase will enjoy many more. Mrs P and I have clocked up 31 so far.
ReplyDelete1984 was special as I travelled from the antipodes to live and work in London for a couple of months during my university break. The greatest adventure of my life for a young bloke. Many highlights, including meeting Lemmy in a pub somewhere in Soho after I'd been to a gig at the Marquee. And, of course, seeing "1984" at a cinema in Queensway, Bayswater (also saw "Beverley Hills Cop" there too). And drinking warm beer. Cheers, Tony P
Ha ha, thanks Tony. Warm beer, that made me chuckle. It must have been great meeting Lemmy in person. The Kilmister himself! I saw him in Hawkwind but they were on stage far away. Where are you in Oz?
Delete1984... Razorback was released and I was working on 2084/Lorca and the Outlaws/ Starship - a SF film directed by Roger Christian of Star Wars and Alien fame...
ReplyDeleteI only realised it the other day, but later this month, the Macross Summer of '84 released 40 years ago!
Now I'm feeling really old!
I really must see Razorback Looey!
DeleteMany many congratulations Woodsy & Birgit, belated but no less sincere! Quite an achievement esp in a time when I know many more people who divorced then stayed together. Mrs V still puts up with me after 34 years of married life, but actually since 1984 when around Easter she finally consented to being taken out to dinner. Around this time that year I'd just finished art college and she was one of the reasons I moved back to Belgium. Best -- Paul
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul and Well done Mr and Mrs. Vreede! 34 years! It must have been an excellent dinner!
DeleteMany belated anniversary wishes Mr and Mrs Moonbase!! Have you ever considered changing your surname officially to the above moniker???
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot MJ! I'm waiting for the right moment! Ha ha
