I'm familiar with SNAFU; less so with FUGAZI and have no idea what a word I recently keep seeing on eBay means: SOFUBI.
Any ideas?

According to Google:
ReplyDeleteSofubi: Soft vinyl toys, generally referring to Japanese toys or those produced with similar methods. Sculpt: The 3D model of a toy, usually produced first in clay and then in wax before being transformed into a metal mold through electroplating.
Ah, so it's a Japanese word! Thanks Scott!
DeleteWell answered Scott!
DeleteSofubi is a Japanese portmanteau word for Soft/Vinyl = Sofubi.
-B and V are interchageable in the Japanese tongue.
I've tried to make my own Soft Vinyl Art Toys and it was the most expensive and frustrating thing I have ever attempted. The wax and electroplating stage was a killer, beaten only by my inabilty to source suitable PVC polyol...
Oh, the pain, the pain...
Now I make my Art Toys with 3D printing techniques. I still haven't cracked the proper soft vinyl feel, but they’re looking good.
Do you wanna see a post about my Sofubi adventures, Moonbasers?
Yes please Looey! SOFUBI us up!
DeleteFugazi, as used in the (great), film, 'Donnie Brasco', means fake. It does not seem to be an acronym.
ReplyDeleteI've seen Donnie Brasco Kev! And yep a great movie. Donnie shouldn't have offended the young Turk from Brooklyn should he! Don't recall the word FUGAZI but ta for the meaning.
Deletehows about FUBAR?
ReplyDeleteAnd what pray is FUBAR?
DeleteFUBAR is Fu**ed Up Beyond All Recognition. Vietnam War origin, I believe. As is FUGAZI - Fu**ed Up, Got Ambushed, Zipped In [a body bag]. Compare another military acronym, SNAFU - Situation Normal, All Fu**ed Up.
DeleteGood Lord, such terrifying acronyms from a war not so long ago.
DeleteYeh, Sofubi is the new fancy name for soft vinyl figures. I was first attracted to Vinyl Kaiju about twenty years ago, before the fad became trendy and hugely expensive. The only figures I’ve saved are a set of Pachimon (Bootleg) Kaiju monsters, which are so cool, I’ll never part with them. All these new, wildly overpriced Toho monster figures, I can do without. I’ll take pix of my humble Pachimon Monsters and send them along. SFZ
ReplyDeleteYes please SF. Pach im across!
