T'other week I bought a battle-damaged incomplete Dinky SPV for three squid.
Now the MoonBase is made I've begunrestoring it with bits and bobs I have in my scrap box.
I started with a new coat or two of metallic paint pen. Not perfect but OK for my cabinet. Just the white top grille to do now.
The originals roll a bit on their bracket so I managed to recreate that Dinky movement.
Next up the missing rear track array, a much much tougher job.
From an old bit of metal, I began creating a set of wheels for the double tracks.
The rubber band tracks were coloured black as were the rollers.
Alas, this doesn't roll but looks OK I reckon, albeit bigger than the original.
Here's the antenna and the tracks in place. Any good?
Next up, the missing front missile door.
Watch this space!
Nice paint job. What colour did you use? I found Zircon blue metallic, the colour of my old Austin Maestro was a good match! A coat of clear lacquer would give that Dinky SPV look to it.
ReplyDeleteGood tip Kev. The paint is a paint pen the same colour as the SPV. Pure luck. Zircon is mentioned on You Tube as a good colour for restoring the SPV yes.
DeleteAnother excellent restoration, using basic materials. We really do need an entire article on your wonderful paint pens - I have never used them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul. The paint pens for this are metallic colours bought on Amazon. I have Matt ones too and acrylic gloss paint pens. All good value. Sharpie pens are great too.
DeleteGlorious restoration - long live the SPV! SFZ
ReplyDeleteCheers SF! Spectrum is glued.
