This 2000 AD Annual 1980 was part of a large lot of books that came my way last month.
I was never a 2000 AD reader but I now appreciate the effort and following of the comic that emerged in the decaying end of the Seventies.
Browsing through I was attracted to the reds of Dan Dare.
When Bam! What is that ship!*?
There was more at the end too!
I don't know about you but I think the artist has possibly taken inspiration from two sources we know well.
FAB1
and the Triang SpaceX Salvage Craft
Merging them together you get something like this.
What do you think readers?
Hmm - I can see the car influences.. but.. Just reminds me of why I let 2000ad go a few years back, with their insistence of filling the annuals and specials with poor quality artwork like this. They seemed to just farm stuff out to amateurs with no experience of the character, or even of drawing!
ReplyDeleteI rather like that illustration style. Reminds me of certain futuristic Han Bok-esque strips in Eerie and Creepy in the 60's.
DeleteI never read 2000A.D., but that car/space ship reminds me more of Supercar than anything. The bubble canopy and wings.
ReplyDeleteYes, I see what you mean Paul.
DeleteI like this red art and the style myself.
