Looking through the book Collecting Monster Toys by John Marshall (Schiffer Publications, 1999), I came across a range of plastic toys that consisted of famous movie monsters riding skateboards. They were called Fun Skaters.
I do not know how many were in the series, but all those I have seen appear to be from Japanese monster movies. The were about 3 inches high, and 3 1/2 inches long.
Godzilla came in green or yellow
King Kong is brown, John Marshall describes him as being 'an amazing likeness of the Toho version of King Kong from King Kong vs. Godzilla'.
Dinosaur standing on his tail, light brown. I have no idea who this is meant to be, I assume another Japanese movie monster ?
They were made by Hang Yip Plastics Limited, of Hong Kong. This company operated from 1983 to 2000. Their logo was a monogram, containing the letters H and Y.
They came in a plastic bubble, glued to a backing card. The toys themselves were Made in China. The card carries the number 89913-5, and appears to be common to all the toys.
The King Kong card has a sticker on the back, saying 'Made in China for Justen Products, Itasca, IL 60143.
There seems to be very little information on these toys, or many sales listings for the figures. This was everything I could find.

Now I have officially seen everything. SFZ
ReplyDeleteThat was my reaction too. So I just had to find out as much as I could about them.
ReplyDeleteThat orange dinosaur appears to be a Toho character.Gorosaurus from King Kong Escapes and Destroy All Monsters. His on-screen color is Bluish-gray,and he is known for rearing up on his tail and delivering a kangaroo -like kick.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the identification. I get totally lost when it comes to Japanese monster movies, there are just so many different characters.
