Like those folks who haven't yet seen Star Wars, I am one of those few who haven't seen Big Trouble in Little China!
So when I saw this custom figure by BOOM! Studios [although I can't now find it on their site] I realised that I have no clue who Jack Burton is or whether this space suit even relates to the film.
I imagine there are some Big Trouble fans reading this who can clear up any mystery here.
ZERO association with the movie Woodsy! Although Kurt Russel played a truck driver there was no space whatsoever in the movie. I enjoyed the movie, even though it seemed a little convoluted in some spots. Neat figure though. You should try the movie.

Cheers Jim, that's cleared that up!
DeleteBig Trouble is a great movie though, you should watch it right away! Russell also played in Escape from NY and its sequel LA (not as Jack but as Snake Plissken) . In one of those I believe there was some flying, but I don't remember a space suit... And of course he was in that Guardians of the Galaxy movie in space, but he didn't need a suit for that story! How we get Jack Burton in Space Truckin' I just don't know. Big Trouble released in '86, the Deep Purple song in '72. I'm lost. But in a good way.
ReplyDeleteI love the Escape films Baron, under-rated gems really and hardly ever on TV. I like Kurt in Grindhouse too. His role in Guardians is a little annoying for some reason and I thought the CGI younger Kurt wasn't that great, but hey I love the Guardians too and can forgive them makers for these minor gremlins. Space Truckin' Deep Purple! Yes! Turn it up!
DeleteAh, it's a comic book: https://www.boom-studios.com/archives/spotlight-on-big-trouble-in-little-china-old-man-jack/
ReplyDeleteCase cracked!
DeleteThat is one serious Mullet hairstyle he's got!
ReplyDeleteMullets are making a slow but visible comeback Bill, certainly in my high school!
DeleteYou need to watch Big Trouble, its on Disney + and was on terrestrial TV a day or two ago. Its John Carpenter at his finest, lots of daft kung fu action, comedy, monsters and tongue in cheek action hero antics. Kurt Russell is brilliant, along with James Hong as the baddie and a couple of stooges from Bruce Lee's stable! Bill
ReplyDeleteYou're selling it with mentions of Bruce Lee-type action Bill!
Deleteand a great Carpenter soundtrack too!
ReplyDeletehe certainly knew how to rustle up a tune!
DeleteI WISH I had never seen Star Wars, Ha! SFZ
ReplyDeleteYou have been Jedi'd SF!
DeleteI think the closest you're going to get to space truckers in the movies, is George Peppard in Battle Beyond the Stars or Dennis Hopper in the movie Space Truckers...
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, no action figures for either of those properties!
Interesting stuff Looey! Never seen either of them!
