LP styled rubber aliens and spacemen were staples of old vending machines in the US [not sure about anywhere else].
Here's a rogues gallery of them seen on auction this year.
Late 1970's brought in the LP/ Star Wars mash-ups. I love Darth at the end in green and below in brown on the card alongside Buck Rogers, Twiki and space girls.
Here's a set of more standardised LP rubber figures.
and two of them appear here on the card again.
A mystery object is the small red boot-like item with a white handle? Its just above half way on the right. There's one in the card in the very first picture too. What is it readers?
Do you have any rubber jigglers? Any LP or Star Wars ones?
Those star wars and lp mash ups are awful!! R5D4 with a palm tree in his head is bad enough, but my favourite Wotan figure next to him with a mutated head growing out of it is too much! The red white thing looks like a pen topper - theres a wobbly spring under the red bit, but what thats supposed to be is anyones guess. Bill
ReplyDeleteLove love love these cute little toys! Especially the Star Wars knockoffs - to me the knockoffs are more interesting than the originals. But then again, you know I like a good knockoff! SFZ
ReplyDeleteGot to admit I'm a sucker for a cheap plastic vintage knockoff. Love these. The quirkier the better for me.
ReplyDeleteI love these little thingies too. Just realised that the mystery item I mentioned is attached to a spring. Looking at it again I see now it's probably an aliens head with antennae that fits on top of a pencil! Springy cool!
ReplyDeleteIt's a 60s or 70s springy, cartoon style, dogs head or cayote head pencil topper, seen side on in the package.
ReplyDeleteCheers Mish, you've solved this mystery!
DeleteHold up.
ReplyDeleteSome call it a kangaroo head.
Love it!
