Its not often I see a stylised illustration of Robbie the Robot but this book cover caught my eye. It looks a fairly awkward stance for the big guy but I like this action scene. Looks like it was signed Taj from 1970.
Do you like it? Have you read the Neural Atrocity?
I haven't read that one, but somewhere I still have THIS stylised illustration of the big guy...

Thats the most pronounced pin dome I've seen. Looks like Robbie's been skewered!
DeleteStrange....
ReplyDeleteI've never seen that picture before, but I recognize that pose... But, I don't know where I've seen it.
Looks like Frazetta to me Scott.
DeleteThe illustration is by british artist Peter Jones and was also used as the cover art for the 1989 Amiga game 'Stryx' by Psygnosis. They used a lot of the Paper Tiger book cover illustrations for their box art, to great effect. Bill Robbie even appears in the game too!

ReplyDeleteah, PAJ, not TAJ! What an archive. A prolific artist! Thanks!
DeleteYes that's the great Peter Jones at the artboard there, he did many such covers back in the day including the Larry Niven books but this is one I haven't seen before so many thanks for posting!!
