Woodsy,
RE: your latest posts about the English Civil War pencil sharpeners are quite interesting. The American Civil War (ACW) has seen its fair share of souvenirs as well.
Here's pics of my pencil sharpener cannon (the second pic shows a Marx 54mm figure for comparison). As a kid, I bought them from the Natural History Museum in Milwaukee, and I used to have souvenir musket bullets and play Confederate money as well - also museum purchases - but they are all long since gone.
This particular cannon was purchased a few years ago for my ACW soldiers from fleaBay.
BTW I do have actual Confederate currency I bought when I was still into coin and currency collecting many moons ago.
Cheers

This looks to be very similar to my gun, although they are not identical. The carriages are slightly different, although the basic shape is the same. Yours also has rear end of the barrel enclosed by an extra part. Was it a firing mechanism ?
ReplyDeleteI would love to see some photos of your Confederate money - a real piece of history.
Paul, the cannon is in fact a firing toy with a spring-loaded breech. There's a few more photos on my blog: http://toyconnect.blogspot.com/2014/05/metal-cannon-pencil-sharpener.html
DeleteI've been meaning to break out the Confederate currency for some time now but it's a tad bit tricky to get to. When I do do I'll send pics to Woodsy.
Fascinating stuff guys. Thanks for the blog link Ed. As usual, yours are the best panoramic photos on the net!
