I was blown away by this! 1stDibs auctions listed it as
"General Motors gas turbine concept model, The Bison Series, Possibly by Syd Mead or Tom Semple . The vehicle was built and shown at 1964 World's Fair."
I've also seen it described elsewhere as a Derek Meddings design from Thunderbirds! Does something like this appear in the show?
Do you like this design readers?
It would make a great die-cast toy!
It's very like the cab of the trucks that transport the mobiles in UFO.
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean Kev!
DeleteIt’s so coool
ReplyDeleteSure is!
DeleteA futuristic factory run-about, with a flat-deck for carrying loads ? Every good Bond villain's lair needs a fleet.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering how the driver got in and out, but there seems to be a faint door outline on the left side.
Yes, a bond secret lair runabout! Thats it Paul, I see what you mean!
DeleteIts definitely General Motors from the 64 Worlds Fair, but i'm not sure its a Bison. This was a full size truck developed by GM as a demonstration rig for the fair. This was probably a small scale model from one of the cases or the working Futurama II layout. Not a Syd Mead design either, although you can see his influence.

Fascinating insights. I'll look for Bison and get them on Moonbase.
