It's Saturday so that means forgetting work Ang going rummaging in charity shops.
Here's some of the items the Missus and me saw on the shelves.
This plastic Halloween doorbell is called Spooky Jime! £1.
This eerie winged creature is a mystery. Anyone recognize it?
The green plane is marked B&M, the chain store.
These old Goldilocks cubes were quaint. £5.
Vintage camera are always in evidence. Here's one I remember my Parents had when I was a kid.
Likewise I recall curvy glass vases like this back home back in the day. Do you?
This board game looks like an Italian version of Ludo.
And this tea and coffee set screamed Lady Penelope! Is that her famous intercom tea pot?
This plastic salter looked spacey too.
Lots of really old toys around today like a wooden pram. £30.
Not that old and something I've bought and sold before, the Gormiti plastic mountain. The Missus bagged it for our Grandson.
Finally, my own purchase. This basket of die-casts. £10.
Back at base here they are lined up.
From L to R: Siku, Lesney, Matchbox, China x 2, Siku, Siku.
The Siku crane and Super Kings truck and trailer are in great Nick. Just the tailgate missing from the latter.
Our Grandson has a plastic version of the crane. It would make a great SpaceX vehicle!

The die-casts.
ReplyDeleteNot all Matchbox toys are actually marked Matchbox. Lesney Products Limited was founded in 1947, and the Matchbox Series of miniature vehicles was introduced in 1953. Early models were just marked LESNEY and ENGLAND on the underside. The words "Matchbox" Series initially only appeared on the boxes. It was not until 1960 that the "Matchbox" name began to appear on the models themselves. It would be several years before it would be found on all the models, as existing models were not modified to add the name. Lesney continued to appear on the models, until the original company ran in to difficulties in the early 1980s, and was bought out. After 1982 only the Matchbox name appeared. Matchbox then went to Tyco, who were taken over by Mattel. Today, both the Matchbox and Mattel names appear on models.
Therefore the models marked Lesney and Matchbox are both made by the same company.
Thanks for this Paul. the long green truck is the old one here, marked Lesney and the red cab with the yellow trailer is a Matchbox Super King, in fab condition. I wonder if I could get a replacement tailgate?
DeleteReplacement parts for various die-casts are available from several small makers. The best known is Steve Flowers. He might have a replacement tailgate, but I have not checked yet.
ReplyDeleteI asked Steve Flowers thanks. No luck. I'll have to make my own I think.
DeleteI think the truck with the red cab and yellow tipper trailer is the Matchbox King Size K-18b Articulated Tipper Truck from 1974. If so, the original tailgate was plastic. There should also be a set of landing legs to support the front of the trailer when it is not attached to its tractor. I can not see from the photos of your example if it still has this ?
ReplyDeleteGot the landing legs Paul.
DeleteOMG. Picture cubes! Now I know what they are! I remember 1 or 2 cubes in one of the boxes of odds and sods toys that I played with as a nipper.
ReplyDeleteGlad I could help!
