Its Moonbase Junior's "sith" birthday in September. We are thinking of getting him some vintage Star Wars figures and maybe an old vehicle or two.
When I say vintage I mean the first 3 films. 1977 onwards.
The project has begun with an Ewok. We picked up an old Teebo the other day in a junk shop. We have started!
And so to vehicles. It can't be outrageously priced so I've been looking at Ebay. I'm amazed how many 3D printed spare parts there are - a Millennium Falcon with that many repro parts reminds me of my Brother's patched-up Ford Cortina in 1976!
Transporters and At-Ats are just too dear. We can forget the Falcon.
I'm thinking a loose Palitoy X-wing and a few vintage figures. A starter set!
What do you think readers?
The classic Kenner figures are worth a mint nowadays. The times when you could go to a swapmeet and find a bunch in a bargain bin are just a sweet memory now.
ReplyDeleteYou can probably still find Hasbro products in a similar way at Op Shops etc, but finding dedicated vintage toys for a young child to play with, seems a little whimsical.
I doubt he'll appreciate the extra trouble you've had to go to...
Looey, I'm really enjoying getting Moonbase Junior excited about vintage Star Wars figures. I get excited too as I always loved collecting them. My Grandson and I look through collectible figures books together and its a real blast. He'll love getting a few for his birthday. I enjoy tracking them down too.
DeleteWhen I was about his age, I was asked what birthday cake I wanted. Time came to pick the choco up-and I saw a white cake with Apollo toys atop it. I would gladly eaten the cake to get those. No dice. She got made at me-and I have no idea the maker. My luck was always bad.
ReplyDeleteThat's a sad story.
DeleteThe only vintage items you will get cheap will be incomplete and probably damaged. I'd go for contemporary toys instead. The design of the basic TIE Fighter hasnt really changed, although the latest X-Wings have been upgraded slightly from the T-65 to the T-70
ReplyDeleteNew stuff leaves me cold to be honest.
DeleteNot a plug and not vintage but for vehicles I'd go for the new Jazwares Star Wars Micro galaxy range as they have the classic X-Wing, Tie fighter and Darth's TIE advanced. Plus you can get them from Tesco, Morrisons and the main toy shops. https://www.thetoyshop.com/search/?text=star%20wars%20micro%20galaxy%20squadron
