Wotan was intrigued recently by one of my Japanese model boxes, so here are pix of the Bandai "Getter" series of model kits, which I don't think were based on any existing Anime program.
The beautiful box art illustrations by Shigeru Komatsuzaki are dated 1973-1974, so I imagine that was their first release. The models I managed to snag were 1999 reissues.
There are three in the series, and they each had identifier names like Eagle, Bear and Jaguar, but I have no idea which is which!
They are very cool generic SF vehicles though, don't you think?

Ahem! Not to be too contradictory, but Getta is an anime series!

Very glad to hear that Getter was a TV show after all! What a trip it must have been to grow up in Japan! As for Giant Transforming Robots, I can take 'em or leave 'em, but the vehicles they turn into or come from, those I like!
DeleteThey may be re-issues, but that still doesn't diminish their attraction! Lovely kits and very distinctive in style. I'm glad looey has confirmed my suspicions about Getta, the red ship especially looks like the head unit of a giant robot. Once more the build quality is wonderful and the photography is flawless. You must have an amazing collection.

DeleteYour models always impress me Rob usually because I've never seen anything like them anymore. These are stunners. So well made and the painting is superb. I love it how they have that toy feel that the Japanese were masters at. You've really brought out. Go Gettem!
ReplyDeleteYes, I really gravitate towards the colorful, toy-like quality of the "first wave" of Japanese SF models. What came later was great, but not my cup of tea. Guess I'm still a boy at heart...
