The Missus and me were let out on Saturday. We hit the charity shops! yay!
We got tons of modern kids' toys for our Grandkids and a few vintage odds and ends.
This Batman figure came with a plastic case of sorts and a grabbing arm.
Anyone recognise it?
Also an unusual die-cast car.
Its Blue Box and there is a ratchet style sounder underneath too.
Anyone know Blue Box die-casts?
Also a small Britains Deetail archer. Is he complete? From a set?
Anyone know?
Have you found any odds and sods lately?
I always assumed Blue Box were plastic only, but then they began to move with the times, so I suppose die cast arent a big stretch. Archer looks complete, Id have to check my Britains reference to be sure. Batman is probly one of the myriad incarnations made by Hasbro and Kenner, hes got more suits than ive had hot dinners!
ReplyDeleteThanks Wote. I do like the BB die-cast with its clicking noise!
DeleteI have a very useful reference book - Encyclopedia of Small-Scale Diecast Motor Vehicle Manufacturers, by Kimmo Sahakangas, Dave Weber, and Mark Foster, published by Iconografix, 2006, which has short entries on hundreds of companies that have made die-casts over the years. The entry for Blue Box says that in 1988 there was a series called Speed Sounder, with racing engine sounds. The rear tyres are described as being rubber, with the rear axle making a clicking sound. At one time the Corgi Junior series included something similar under the Growlers name. Blue Box have also issued a few other die-casts, all seem to be from the 1980s onwards, otherwise all plastic.
ReplyDeleteOn my last visit to a model shop that still sells second-hand items, I picked up 25 assorted Britains wild animals from about the 1970s. A few I had as a boy, but most I did not. You hardly ever see these anymore.
The Britains Deetail range came out in the 1970s. They were plastic figures with metal bases, making them difficult to knock over. All in 54 mm or 1/32nd scale.
Fab info Paul. Fascinating stuff!
DeleteLooking at the Blue Box car, I am reminded of Matchbox due to the wheels and logo style. According to hobbydb.com "Blue Box Toys FTY LTD of Macau is one of most recognized manufacturers of Matchbox model car copies, which date from 1986. One unique attribute of Blue Box Toys diecast cars is the rear wheels click when rolled, much like a duck call or a playing card slapping against bike wheel spokes."
ReplyDeleteYour Batman figure is from the dark knight rises toy line, specifically the deluxe combat claw Batman. Usually in second hand shops the accessory is often the incorrect one if one is even paired with a figure but yours is correct, lucky find!

As usual brilliant info and ID'ing Lance. Thanks so much for taking the trouble. I would never have got the name of that Batman!
DeleteThe bat symbol is quite useful to help narrow down your search. It has different looks for each block of movies and some differences between the movies of the same block. This also applies to tv shows and books but tends to not have as many variations of the symbol to help keep costs down/reuse animation cells.
