Hello Woodsy,
Writing about the Tri-ang clockwork Sherman Tank reminded me that in the early 80's I bought this radio controlled Sherman at Radio Shack. It was sold by TANDY in the UK.
I just found the carton containing it and with fresh batteries off it went after 30 years of waiting for action. I remember playing with this when my daughter was little.
At the claimed scale of 1/24 it's too large for 1/32 toy soldiers but it does fill the childhood need for a tank operated from a distance.
Well for the last 30 years it was in a carton with some of my toy taxi collection, a Space Spinner from Issue 1 of 2000AD and two battery powered Scorpion Tanks.
Forgot to mention the Sherman was in the same carton as this tin money box!

Hmmmm, that track base looks kinda SHADO Mobile to me! But chewing up vintage toys for model making feels a bit disrespectful!
ReplyDeleteNIKKO the maker of this tank may indeed have made the tracked vehicle that Anderson used as the basis of theirs.
ReplyDeleteThe shado mobile was based on the Topper toys Tiger Joe tank.
ReplyDeleteI like this tank Terran. I like the telephone tin too. Is that Marylin Monroe making a call?
