Hello Woodsy
While looking for something else I found a photo of the Star Wars Chocolate Bar wrappers I designed years ago. Too bad that project came to naught.
Just remember when Lucas controlled Star Wars, Bubble Gum Cards were OK to market but Chocolate Bars were junk food!
Congratulations on a summer of fun scratch building projects.

Such cool designs, Terranova. I hadn't realised that chocolate bars were considered junk food back then. I do like the layout of the middle design best :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Terranova, a trio filled with sweet nostagia! Cool designs indeed. Were you given a free hand in designing them?
ReplyDeleteA client of mine had created a chocolate bar for a baseball team, The Milwaukee Brewers. It featured their logo and colours and sold at their stadium and locally. When he tried to expand to other teams he was faced with a law suit from Major League Baseball for not having a licence from them. The cost of said licence would have made the product uneconomic for him so he thought to try selling the same product to Lucus Films.
ReplyDeleteI had a free hand in the design. Each could have been modified with the StarWars logo in place with different scenes or characters depicted. The top design for example could have different characters and would have made a collectable set much as baseball cards.
The official letter from Lucas Films rejecting the idea saying George Lucus would not have StarWars depicted to sell junk food. As it happens the chocolate bars were much better tasting than Hershey and more like Cadbury.
StarWars bubblegum cards were sold everywhere at the time. Since then it would be hard to find any product that has not been marketed as StarWars even more so since Disney bought the brand.
