Every time I look for B-movie posters I see yet more flicks that I've not even heard of.
It must have been a golden age for sci-fi films in the 50's or maybe they just churned them out for an insatiable drive-in public? Were they better films than we make now?
Since many of these films are old enough and black and white enough to be free on You Tube I plan to catch-up this year.
On the list are the Lost Missile, 4D Man, Earth V The Flying Saucers, The Angry Red Planet, Satan's Satellites, World Without End, Invasion of the Saucer Men, The Cosmic Man, Project Moonbase and The Space Children.
One of my favourite posters out of these is the Lost Missile from 1958. I find the idea of a mislaid missile fascinating and the addition of the giant clawed hand just draws me in completely. Its next on my home cinema B list.
I love the idea that the original audiences of these B-movies saw them on the big screen, either in a normal cinema or a drive-in and even more intriguing is that they may have watched them again on cine film in the comfort of their own homes, the sort of films advertised at the back of Famous Monsters of Filmland.
Did you see any of these back in the day? Have you got any B-movies on Super 8 cine-film? Which films would you recommend?

Sounds like quality time to me, Woodsy. Two of my fave pop up here. Earth Vs The Flying Saucers, famous for some ace stop-motion flying saucer sequences by genius animator, Ray Harryhausen. It's one of those old sci fi movies I'll happily watch over and over on DVD. Invasion of the Saucer Men is a worthy cash-in-flick pushing all the popular B-movie themes of the day - invasion, flying saucers and teenagers. The scowling little aliens make me smile everytime, but then I like this sort of thing :)
ReplyDeleteLookin forward to it Tone. That would be a great movie name, The Scowling! ha ha
DeleteIndeed Woodsy. Mrs K often gives me a severe scowling :)
