Reader Ranalcus kindly sent me this cute Japanese Rhino beast in a box of Japanese goodies this summer.
Small plastic dice can be inserted into its chest.
Bill has blogged about some of Ranalcus's other donated model treasures, which Bill kindly built up, earlier in the Autumn.
Does anyone know the history of the Battle Beasts as toys?
Are they related to Transformers?
This is Beast Saga (2011+) figure, that is direct descend on Battle Beasts toy line that is sub-series of Transformers (???)

That's a great article on Wiki Ran so thanks for the link. I know a lot more now. I have been to hundreds of second hand sales in the UK and never seen any Battle Beast figures. I am also not fantastically familiar with Transformers. I know a little but have never collected them or bought/sold many of them. As a result the related Battle Beasts are quite new to me. Like Micronauts its a new area for me. Thanks for the toys. Very generous. I imagine there were many knockoff Battle Beasts toys over the years do you think?
DeleteI have never watched lots of transformers (besides Beast Wars and Armada) I liked the idea, but prefered other series with sapient robots
DeleteThere is always a high chance that "animalistic robots" were popular for some time and many comapnies released their own toy line. Just like in 80's and early 90's the Animal-mutants fighters were popular - Street Sharks, Biker Mice from Mars etc.
DeleteFrom Microman I have only seen the 1999 anime few years ago and saw that they made a many sub series from other anime series like: Love Live!, Kinikuman (Ultimate Muscle in USA), Godzilla (Micromans in "rubber suits") and even Kantai Collection (popular online browser game where WWII era warships are presented as cute girls).
The longer the series exist and is popular, the bigger chance for less know spin-off that nobody even knows that existed (beside hardcore fans)
You know your beasts Ran. Its a whole sub-genre. I'd better stick to the 60's and 70's where I know the toys well!
