I've been thinking about a big box VHS video I have in storage.
Ghosts from the Deep.
A kids' cartoon from the Seventies.
I remember when I spotted it 20 years ago at a sale thinking I didn't recognise the cartoon.
Here's the cool VHS cover.
Reading this again I realise that its actually a cartoon called The Undersea Adventures of Captain Nemo.
I still don't remember it but then again I was 14 in 1975 and my eye was firmly on other things I imagine.
I do like the blue submarine though. It has a sort of classic design, which is vaguely familiar.
There's also a Wiki page with all the episodes listed. How many!? Ghosts of the Deep isn't an episode name though. It must be a compilation title for the VHS release.
Its ironic that I still have it on VHS, at one time the only way to see stuff like this but now dead technology whereas now its available whenever you want on the net!
So in case it might jog your own memory readers here's a clip I found on YT of episode 1.
Know it?
I don't know the show but I do like the look of the blue sub. Speaking of old technology, bought a brand new cd player this week from a well known chain and it had a cassette deck in it! What is going on?
ReplyDeleteFantastic, the return of the deck! I love it. I was playing ,y Grandson a cassette tape of Disney songs this morning Kev. Soon all our old Xmas tapes will come out. We have a CD, tape and record player unit in the front room still. Enjoy your new player!
DeleteI don't know this cartoon, but it would have been welcome in my childhood Saturday morning cartoon line-up.And ,yes, cassettes seem to be making a kind of comeback.I have not taken well to this digital download business.when I buy something,I want to be able to actually hold it in my hand.I also enjoy cover art and liner notes on album inserts. You can at least get miniature versions of them in a cassette case. Both decent arguments for cassettes, I think.I also have all my cassette players from as long as 30 years ago and they work fine.May as well use 'em!
ReplyDeleteI'm like you Brian. I've never taken to CD's really although I did buy them. I've sold them all now and am in the process of selling all my DVD's. Its VHS video tapes, Cassette tapes and records that mean something to me. I agree about liner notes too. They are essential to the pleasure of the whole. Sadly the ease of the internet has also lessened my need for CD's and DVD's. Virtually every song by every artist from my youth is on You Tube for free along with all my fave old horror films. I never took to any of the other formats like Minidisc or Laser Disc.
DeleteI notice CD seem to have a shelf life of about 20 years maximum. The players seem to crap out also. Some of my old cassettes are delicate, but still play. The players are pretty solid too
ReplyDeleteYeah, the cassette player we got in the mid 80's, a Matsui portable deck, is still going strong Brian! It has double speed dubbing so recording another tape took just minutes. It was great back then when we borrowed music tapes from other folks!
DeleteThe old 8 Track system was the best, absolutely bomb proof cassettes!
ReplyDeleteah this show was on tv pretty often in canada for a long time when I was young, i'd sure like to find all the episode again
ReplyDeleteThere's at least one for sale in Canada https://www.amazon.ca/Undersea-Adventures-Captain-Nemo-Ghosts/dp/B001RCBQ7Q/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=%22captain+nemo%22+ghosts&qid=1609783033&sr=8-1
