Those fine folk at Sixteen 12 Collectables have started
rolling out the first of their much anticipated Space: 1999 die-cast Special
Edition ‘Episode’ collection this week.
The first is the Eagle Freighter seen in the opening
episode, ‘Breakaway’, and used to
convey Nuclear Waste Canisters to the Moon’s Nuclear Waste Dumps.
Although this new range certainly appears to use the same dies
and moulds as the popular and long
discontinued Product Enterprise 12”
Eagles, they do differ in having proper
machine turned and hand finished aluminium engine bells this time, which I
have to say really do enhance the model.
Each individually numbered set is limited to 1000, with the Freighter
set already sold out. (At this moment
in time Sixteen 12 Collectables have planned for four
‘episode’ Eagle sets plus a deluxe hanger set which will feature Rescue and Laboratory
Eagles)
The Freighter comes with a cargo pallet, which wasn’t
included in the original Product Enterprise run, 6 loose nuclear waste
canisters, a nuclear silo cover, a plastic loading platform (that obviously
doubles as a display plinth) and a Moon
Buggy.
Even the attractive packaging has been well thought out. The
front cellophane window shows off what’s included, while the back has some
background info on the series and photos from the ‘Breakaway’ episode.
Even the inner sleeve has a nice line plan of Moonbase
Alpha. I have to say I really do like these little extra details that Sixteen 12 is so good at.
Although, as I said previously the Freighter is sold out, I
reckon any of these new sets are a must -have for Space:1999 Eagle model
collectors. Check out their site http://www.sixteen12.com/index_s1999_diecast.html
Looks lovely, but out of my league price-wise!
ReplyDeleteI've ordered the Immunity Syndrome set as the Eagle comes with the Glider that I've always wanted since being a kid. Probably get the Hawk too, though the new Round 2 Hawk kit is an excellent model. I'd love them to make a 1/72 Swift and 1/72 Ultraprobe Command Module too one day.
ReplyDeleteOh yes,I'd love a pre made Swift too.
DeleteAs with most Space:1999 models these are proving very popular. The Immunity Syndrome is next on the agenda, which will probably be another sell out.
