The DOMO 1, my latest rescue vehicle from the
DeAgostini Thunderbird 2 Build.
The DOMO or The Demolition and Object Moving Operator was
designed by Mike Trim, and seen in the episode, ‘The Duchess Assignment’. It’s
driven by Scott Tracy who refers to it as ‘The Restraining Outfit’ and is used
to hold up the unstable gable end of a country house where the Duchess of
Royston is being held prisoner down in the house’s cellar.
The three jointed arms are apparently capable of lifting up
to fifty tons in weight, and the three suction cups at the end use an
artificial gravity field enabling them to attach to any surface( although in
the episode they do slip off for dramatic effect)
Although the Pod used in the episode is clearly number 3,
the DOMO appears to emerge from Pod 4, according the sign on the Pod wall. The
same goes for The Mole which also appears in the episode.
The DeAgostini model is another winner as far as I’m concerned.
I did give it a dark wash to tone it down a bit and take away the toy- like
look.
Another extraordinary photo shoot!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ziggurat,I do try to make the posts interesting if I can.:)
DeleteLike those photos a lot. The destruction of that house was worth it!
ReplyDeleteCheers Kevin. The section of house was MDF I cut to suit and dressed to look similar to what we see in the episode.I had to line the back with foil to try and protect the model from heat.
DeleteFantastic, as always!
ReplyDeleteThanks Micky.:)
DeleteLove it.... but please, please please let´s refer to it as the Restraining Outfit. That´s what Scott Tracy called it. The Domo was a TV21ism....
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yes indeed, its The Restraining Outfit on TV, but growing up in the sixties and reading TV21 I'm quite happy to use the odd TV21ism ;)
DeleteUtterly superb Scoop! I had to look twice at that burning facade. I then realised you'd made it all yourself and also created a real fire behind! That's Derek Meddings stuff that! Make a film. You know you want to!
ReplyDeleteThanks Woodsy. The fun is setting things up and trying to make them look right, bearing in mind that its all small scale.
DeleteApart from a few tweaks photoshopped stuff never looks right to me, plus it's no fun.
I'd love to do a film, but I think I'd need a few like - minded (and reasonably skilled) people to help me out.
