Whilst walking through a city park on Saturday afternoon Missus Moonbase and I noticed a large group of people stood in the drizzling rain.
The group were stood around with open umbrellas and all staring at their mobile phones.
I had no idea what they were doing but the Missus knew straight away!
What do you think they were doing?
How about

Sorry Arto, not a flashmob as such but good try. better than me. I had no idea!
DeleteI think Arto's nailed it, Woodsy. But I did initially wonder if the gathering was generated by people finding and catching Pokemon? Seems to be a popular worldwide trend requiring a mobile app called - Pokemon Go.
ReplyDeleteYou've nailed it Tony! Pokemon it is! They were seeking Pokemons that were allegedly in the area! A modern cultural phenomenon! I had to get my Missus to explain it to me. A virtual treasure hunt more or less! Could we do it with virtual toys?
DeleteSeems Pokemon Go is banned in certain countries. It's also becoming the subject of conspiracy theory :)

Blimey, getting banned eh! My Missus told me some groups have got into trouble by trespassing on private land to get their pokemons! Reminds me of Kit Williams and his Masquerade book in the Seventies! Remember that?
DeleteI hadn't heard of Kit Williams or Masquerade, Woodsy. Just read up on it though. That's quite a tale of intrigue... and perhaps an early inspiration for Pokemon Go :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a beautiful book Tone, full of magical paintings and folk symbols like the leaping Hare. I tried many times to decipher the riddles therein when I around 17. I never got anywhere but I was transfixed by the art, which hinted at a faerie-like world but a breath away. I don't have Masquerade any more. Not sure where it went. Like the golden hare the author hid for the puzzle solvers, my book is lost but remains forever vivid. Pure teenage gold.
