Toys in the snow!
It was 8 degrees F when I shot this aerial view of enemy missile launcher.
Well pre-21st Century, this is a Crescent toy dating back to the mid-50's
The missile can be loaded with a percussion cap to make a bang when landing.
My parents were on the receiving end of both V1 and V2 weapons so it was surprising they bought me one of these!
The second photo shows the two versions, civil (?) and military which has a US star on the cab door.

I love the top shot in the snow Terra! How did you get the tyre tracks like that?
ReplyDeleteThe roadway had been plowed clear before a light dusting of snow fell. The vehicle 'drove' through the snow driven by a hand from the sky.
ReplyDeleteAh, the hand from the sky technique! ha ha. Oddly enough, I have never seen a missile or rocket on a truck driving on the UK's roads. Maybe its not even legal anymore? Have you sen any on the States?
DeleteI haven't seen any on the US roads but back in the early '60's Bloodhounds were seen being towed about the UK much like the Airfix kit version. In 1960 a classmate turned one of these missiles into a ball point pen which teacher promptly confiscated! I think the real thing was towed by a Humber lorry, not a Land Rover as in the kit.
DeleteOooh! That's a minter! Mine's almost devoid of paint! I like the idea of civilian nukes!
ReplyDeleteH
It's a repaint. Of course the launcher disintergrated as soon as it was completed so the army version is the working one of the two.
DeleteI almost bought one of these off fleaBay but I think other 'gotta haves' ended up coming first :-)
ReplyDeleteI love that toy! ive got the army version, but the missile got launched and lost back in the sixties! white plastic with a cast iron red tip!
