When you were a kid did you eat everything that appeared on the Christmas table?
The arch-enemy of all young kids in Sixties Britain were brussels sprouts. For some reason these mini cabbage poop bombs simply did not agree with young constitutions and children would rather drink a glass of gravy than scoff a brussel!
I must admit I was never that keen on Christmas pudding myself. You know, the steamed dome of raisins and suet often set alight by a tipsy adult. I liked the custard that went with it but only asked for a bit of pud.
How did it go for you at the Christmas dinner back in the day?
Our family dinner on Christmas day was usually a Ham or sometimes Pasta such as Lasagna or shells stuffed with Ricotta cheese. The side dishes varied, but I liked most all of them.Potato Salad, Macaroni and Cheese, and Baked Beans with the Ham,Antipasto Salad and toasted Italian Bread with Garlic Butter with the Pasta.
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious brian. Is that an italian influence?
Deleteyes.Athough I am only about one quarter Italian, the town I grew up in was a community of farmers that immigrated to New Jersey in the 1800's.My paternal great grandfather was from Switzerland.
ReplyDeleteSmall world, I'm quarter Italian too Brian. My ancestors are from Como in the old country. When they emigrated to England they began a barometer making business in the 1800s.
