The Thunderbird 2 build went live yesterday afternoon on the DeAgostini Model Space section much to a number of fans delight. Although it's good to finally see it up and running, it does lack some information. It's unclear how many issues are to be released. The test trial stated 100, although some people who have apparently phoned DeAgostini are told it's nearer 80. It may have been left open ended to allow for additional further models ( A Thunderbird 1 build was available in Japan)

Although the build is basically the same, there have been a few changes. It won't be available in shops, as it's now subscription only, which will disappoint some who wanted to just cherry pick issues for the pod vehicles.
There are no premium packages, and freebies available this time, and the subscription can be over one or two years - either £39.99 per month or £79.99 respectively, which will no doubt put a few people off, as that is pretty expensive. However, there is an introductory offer of £9.99 for the first delivery, which saves £70.
Another change, is there's no actual magazine. The build instructions for each delivery are downloaded as a PDF file from DeAgostini's ModelSpace website.
Although, there's bound to be a few dissenters, the overall impression I get from fans on social media is fairly positive, with some who had previously subscribed to DeAgostini Japan showing off their completed builds.
I'm glad we finally have a Gerry Anderson related part-works on the go, but I wouldn't like to hazard a guess on how successful this will turn out. The model is a big 1/144 scale 540 mm long aircraft. It has motorised legs, lighting and sound effects. It comes with additional pods and a huge assortment of detailed vehicles. Who am I kidding, it's a dream come true for Gerry Anderson toy collectors, with the added bonus of being available on the drip.

Once again a great scoop Scoop! Looks a super model and the range of pod vehicles is amazing. I love the Jet Air Transporter and the BR Lightning. They don't often get to see the light of day. Great stuff!
ReplyDeleteIts a nice model, despite its drawbacks (windows aren't quite right for one thing which I mentioned in my previous post on the subject, but certainly not a deal breaker). The overall price has brought out a few dissenters which is perfectly understandable, but on the whole those that are happy to subscribe are looking forward to the build.
