Did you dye stuff as a kid?
I used to dye T-shirts different colours. I never tried tie-dye, just straight colour changes, usually from white to something else.
I also changed the colour of my monkey boots from black to silver but I think I used spray-on paint for that.
The dye I used for dying was called Dyson. It came in small round tins, which you had to pierce to get the dye out.
Great fun but could be very messy and annoy Mum when she walked in the bathroom!
Did you do dye?
I refused to dye! I do hoover up with Dyson, but dyed my kit with Dylon!
ReplyDeleteIt is Dylon! doh!
DeleteNot in my youth - I did recolour some fabric with liquid water colours which didn't work particularly well as you might guess.
ReplyDeleteDylon came into play in later life though, and with great success. I first used the stuff to colour loofah, kebab skewers and slices of broomhandle for the trees and hedges I've made for my vintage tinplate toy railways (loofah because that's what foliage was made from before icelandic moss was invented for the modern model railroad).
And I've dyed fabric to make camouflage tarpaulins, a tent and other bits of equipment when the boys were into (modern) Action Man and we had to better equip their vehicles. The camo pattern was potato-stamped using fabric paint, which the boys enjoyed doing!
As to leather, I've used leather paint, also by Dylon iirc, for a leather greatcoat I made entirely from scratch to fit a 1/6 scale figure of Field Marshal Rommel. Worked a treat!

Me and a mate had a little punk T-shirt business going back in '78, he dyed them flourescent pink, neon yellow or 'International' orange, his mum put zips in them at random rakish angles and I added tiger, zebra or leopard prints with big black marker pens!
ReplyDeleteNoooowwwwhhhhhoooooo Fuuuuutueeeerrrrrr for you!
