Its an interesting design, not unlike Dinky's Joe's Car but reasonably unique in itself.
Its obviously built more for its insect-like looks rather than something that could really exist. The jet turbines on the roof wouldn't work too well in the airless environment of the Moon, but maybe they're something else, some sort of scientific device and not an engine at all.
At first glance the wings come across as a gimmick, but I suppose to someone with imagination they could be solar panels.
I do like the fact that it can transport vehicles and supplies across the Moon's surface. It might even double as a rescue vehicle.
Here's what Corgi model news had to say about it.
The eye-catching box art.
Lovely article and snaps Scoop. My lunar bug was one of my favourite die casts as a kid. I loved the way the legs could be angled and made a sort of clicking when they were turned. Interesting that the advert uses vehicle models from the worlds fair like the scramble bug rover. Neat.
ReplyDeleteThanks Woodsy, yes it is a nice design isn't it.I would like to have seen a larger plastic version with lights maybe.
DeleteWhat a neat little toy - I'd love one of these. I'd say it was definitely modelled after Joe 90's car. Can't remember ever seeing this before.
ReplyDeleteThere's always a few about at Dinky marts Kid, and they're not usually expensive.
DeleteI always saw them around as a kid but only got around to buying one a couple of years ago. Lovely thing.
ReplyDeleteSomething you should definitely have in your collection Kev, glad you got one.
