Like most people I create my own bubble of information. Some gets in, some doesn't.

I saw on the News that a lost series of Dr. Who has been recreated in animation. Since the original audio exists it will be presented with that, although I don't know where.
Is this a big deal for Dr. Who fans?

I saw most of House II for the first time last night on You Tube. Not a patch on the original House with lead character Roger Cobb, Sean Cunningham went for laughs with House II.
Having re-watched the original I noticed some Aurora models in Cobb Junior's bedroom. A sure sign of a late Seventies American setting, for that authentic look Aurora monsters were and are essential props. Just think of Super 8!
Do you like House?

Bill tells me that Thunderbirds is back on the telly! Where? This one has really missed by bubble and I must say I haven't seen any mention of it anywhere in the media.
Are you watching Thunderbirds?

The must-see movie of the Christmas season will surely be Star Wars Rogue One. I think it's released here in the UK on December 16th. Not sure about anywhere else. I still haven't seen the new trailer yet, although I hear great things about it. Is it really only a year ago since the last new film!
Will you be going to see Rogue one?

Robert Vaughn died last week. His most famous role was Napolean Solo, the suave secret agent in the cult US TV series from the 1960's, The Man From Uncle. I also vividly recall his convincing portrayal of a gunslinger in the epic Magnificent Seven.
Alas Mr. Vaughn's passing is both sad and poignant as he was yet another icon of our childhood now lost. I still have my Marx 1966 UNCLE Counter Spy Kit as I'm sure many of you have collectables from the show. In this way his presence will still be felt.
What's your fave Robert Vaughn memory or collectable?
RIP Napolean Solo. We will miss you.

Till next time, same channel.
Spotted the Dr Who animation on DVD in HMV today. Cleverly animated in black and white too to keep with the original. Thunderbirds are go is back on Saturday afetrnoons on ITV. The last episode was pretty cool, TB4 was destroyed! Rogue One? Oh yes, just go to any film website for the trailers - X-Wings! Robert Vaughn - fantastic as Napolean Solo, also in the Magnificent Seven and Battle beyond the Stars.I liked him in the Protectors too even though he apparenly hated the series but loved the money! OK it wasn't one of Gerry Anderson's best but Gerry was given the format and told who would be in it.
ReplyDeleteSo the list Who is on DVD. Thanks Yorkie. I'll try to catch Thunderbirds in Catch Up. I haven't seen a comic in the local shop. I don't really remember the Protectors. If I try to I see the Persuaders instead!
DeleteLast Saturday BBCAmerica broadcast the first animated Dalek episode. It was every bit as bad as the original. As someone who watched Dr Who every week from the first episode the new Doctor was not welcome. The only redeeming thing about Troughton was he was better than the CPO Pertwee version that followed.
DeleteWas that one of the newly animated lost episodes terranova?
DeleteYes, the first episode introducing the second Doctor and the confused Ben and Polly. The companions were as confused as the viewers. Animation is better than nothing and it is the original sound track. It just wasn't good then and hasn't improved with age.
DeleteI must say the Doctor I remember the most was Pertwee together with the Master and some Tom Baker. The rest passed me by somehow. I was too young for Hartnell and Troughton. The classics for me are The Curse of Peladon and the Sea Devils. I also enjoyed the modern eposode wuth the Devil trapped in a chasm. Oh and I enjoyed the Daemons after Scoop recommended it. His visit to the location as described on the blog nailed it for me!
DeleteAnother loss from our past, but as you say, Woodsy, Robert Vaughn's memory will live on for a long time in TV memories and merchandise, as the ever dashing and dapper, Mr. Solo.
ReplyDeleteI've still got a single bullet from the Man From U.N.C.L.E. attache case (the cheap cardboard version) I had as a kid, as well as a professionally printed replica of the U.N.C.L.E. card that you could send off to the Radio Times for in 1965. (Still remember the address - 68 St. James Street, London, SW1.) I've also got an Annual. Incidentally, if you'd like to have a copy of the ID card, see the'Open Channel D' post on my blog for details.
ReplyDeleteCool memories Kid. That cardboard attaché case, was it Marx or Lone Star? I shall open channel D without delay.
DeleteThe gun looked like a luger and was die-cast metal, Woodsy, so I think it was Lone Star. There was a plastic silencer and a shoulder-rest attachment, but I can't remember whether that was plastic or metal.
DeleteOops, the old memory's going. 58 St. James's Street, not 68 St. James Street.
DeleteI was impressed you remembered the street never mind the number Kid! Just googled the Lone Star UNCLE set and the shoulder rest looks like its plastic to me. The case itself looks like its plastic covered card. Was your case just cardboard Kid?
DeleteIt may have been that it was plastic-covered card, Woodsy, and I just remember the cardboard underneath from when the plastic started to come off - not too sure. I'll have to Google the Lone Star U.N.C.L.E. set myself and see if it triggers any memories. I'll get back to you.
DeleteWoodsy, just Googled the set and the one I saw was in a cardboard case, so that's probably the one I had. The gun isn't a Luger, but the handle is reminiscent of a Luger's, which is no doubt why I remembered it as such. I'll do a post on it later and show a photo of the case, so keep your eyes peeled on my blog. My computer's in for repair (using a friend's at the moment), but I'm getting it back this afternoon and will do a post this evening sometime.
Deletesounds like a tough mission should you choose to accept it Kid!
DeleteThere have been a number of animated episodes of missing Dr Who stories on Youtube. I don't find them particularly interesting, although as a youngster I did accept Patrick Troughton as a new Dr Who, while preferring Hartnell.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen any of them Andy, interesting. I shall have to check one out. I wonder of there are any missing Gerry Anderson episodes or programmes?
