Following on from my recent look at Dinky's Shado 2 Mobile, here's another UFO inspired die-cast - Ed Straker's car.
Dinky's Ed Straker's Car was released in 1971, and continued in production until 1975.
It was generally available in metallic gold or yellow, with either pale blue, black or white moulded interiors which covered the pull-back and go keyless clockwork motor inside. This meant that the moulded seats were a little too far forward, and left no room for a (left-hand) steering wheel.
While it's certainly an attractive model, it's shape is slightly different to the 'real' car. I reckon it should be slightly wider and lower, with a slight bulge on rear body panels.
Then there's the colour. The metallic gold is the most attractive in my view, but dealers insist on charging more dosh for the allegedly 'rare' yellow one. However, as it's an easy model to take apart, there's certainly no shortage of fairly good fan-produced (Code 3) bronze ones.
I've always meant to ask Scoop - or maybe I already did and forgot :-) - but are these photos taken outdoors on a diorama or scenic base? It looks like outdoors shots. Great shots!
ReplyDeleteHi Ed,thanks. They were taken inside my garage on a small MDF base.If I try to take them outide the breeze disturbs the foliage which is loose.
DeleteThe highly detailed diorama's a fluent piece of modeling and an ideal frame for the models you show us. The UFO pursuing Straker's car is just brilliant. An impressive piece of modeling/photography, Scoop. Well done :)
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Tony. As I reckon most people have seen these models and stuff like it displayed quite a few times now,I just want to try and make things a little more interesting
