Continuing my photo tribute to Dinky's Gerry Anderson's TV series die-casts, here' s their version of the Jet Air Car from Joe 90.
Joe's car , as they chose to call it, was produced from 1969 to 1975, and, remarkably for Dinky, was a similar colour to what appeared on screen.
It featured a painted figure of Joe at the wheel, in a red outfit similar to one that appeared in the series ( This figure would re-appear as the pilot in early versions of Dinky's UFO Interceptor)
Other features were chrome plated turbines, (Cost-cutting Dinky dropped the chrome on some of the production at some point, leaving just plain red plastic) an illuminated engine exhaust, and opening wings and extending tail fins. Sadly, in my opinion this gimmick just didn't look right as the wings weren't swept back like in the series, plus the wheels stayed in the same position..
However, in spite of that, the model as a road vehicle still looks very similar to it's screen counterpart..
Those photos really are excellent.
