The ultra low budget cult classic 1954 Danziger brothers produced, Devil Girl from Mars featured a neat flying saucer, a slow moving robot and a leather clad domitrix on the hunt for male breeding stock to take back to her planet.
What's not to like!
A bit pf trivia: One of the sound editors was Gerry Anderson.
Just watched it. There's something reassuring about these wonderful old sci fi films, Scoop. They have a heart and soul all of their own. Loved the Devil Girls received pronunciation, signifying her social/planetary superiority... and what about that lanky wobbly old robot. For my money this is far more enjoyable and entertaining than some of the big budget films of today. Another one added to my list of fave old sci fi films :D
ReplyDeletei'm really pleased you checked it out, Tony. Considering it's age, and it's mega limited budget it's still entertaining. The Danzigers were masters at making a little money go a long way. Another little point is the music was written by Edwin Astley who went on to write the themes for many ITC series including The Saint, Dangerman and The Baron. The same music that was used for Devil Girl, turned up again as the opening theme to Saber of London.
DeleteThat's a fine piece of background research, Scoop! I have admire low budget movie makers, especially when the finished product stands the test of time as well as this film does.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tony.Yes, it's nice when these old films still have the power to entertain.
