I was watching the Strange World of Planet X last night, which is a kind of crossover between 'THEM' and 'The Day The Earth Stood Still'.
It's loosely based a book by Rene Ray, and like many British made sci-fi thrillers uses tension rather that expensive effects to entertain.
In America it was called Cosmic Monsters , and like a lot of films made during the late fifties, it's a cautionary tale dealing with the atomic age and pushing the boundaries of science .

I managed to track down the trailer and one or two clips, Scoop. Necessity really was the mother (or monster)of invention for these innovative low budget guerrilla movie makers and their unpaid cast of non-Equity creepy crawlies. I totally approve and admire their creative spirit :D
ReplyDeleteHi Tony,If you fancy watching the full film, I've added a dailymotion link at the bottom of the post which will take you to it.
DeleteThank you for the link Scoop. Just spend some self indulgent time losing myself in the film and enjoyed every minute of it. First time I've seen this one. I'm a fan of low budget old B movies. I see resourceful ingenuity and gritty determination in many of these films. I love the social stereotypes, the dramatic music, the screams, the fears and fashions of the day... and of course the gawky monsters who threaten the Earth. This film lived up to all that. Thanks for the link Scoop, well worth watching!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed it Tony. I'm enjoying revisiting them myself. More tomorrow!
