I like these LP style astronauts I saw online. They are hollow plastic and 5 inches tall. If you recall they are the rifleman of the range - 4th from the left.
The little silver martian appears to be holding up a landing marker or similar with his other arm behind his back! I've seen him a million times over the years and have no idea who he is. Anyone?
ADDENDUM:
Hi Woodsy, here is a pack of the 3 space aliens you showed. All the best, Andy B.
Hi is he not a large version of the aliens that GIANT did?
ReplyDeleteAgree with Tony, yes he is a giant GIANT(!)
ReplyDeleteThe astronauts I remember being attached to a parachute.
I see what you mean Tony. having just looked it up on the Things of Plastic blog sadly inactive for a year] I see that Giant aliens mimicked the poses of the LP astronauts more or less! Fascinating. I wonder of Giant and LP were linked in some way?
ReplyDeleteThat's fascinating Andy, LP astronauts with parachutes! And why not! Pity they didn't include a small parachutist in the SpaceX range. There is a parachute on the SWORD Apollo Saturn but the astronaut is a drawing inside the capsule. Cheats! I'd love to see a carded LP parachutist now!
ReplyDeletePlastic soldier review has a great feature on GIANT
ReplyDeleteAnd shows all the space related figures and vehicles.

ReplyDeleteThe Giant Aliens probably came after the LP (full size) as they have more poses, seemingly taking some elements from the spacemen, but apart from piracy I don't think there's a relationship between the two?
ReplyDeleteYou have to be careful buying these blow-moulds loose on eVilBay as their lenticular eyes are easily lost and sellers replace them with modern goggley-rattle eyes!
Also the astronauts in your picture are 'based-on' LP, but there are differences to the air-pipe and weapon, suggesting homage rather than pantograph if you know what I mean!

Interestingly...I would appear to be the owner of the set Andy B has posted! I was going to suggest they only did the three poses (hence the suggestion Giant added poses) as I've only seen the three, but upon comparing the above to mine...they would seem to be the same one...so maybe there are other poses? Anyone seen more? I have some loose ones and they are all from the three poses.

The 3 Men from Outer Space are yours? ha ha, small world...in a vast universe of little silver martians. I will have to look out for more of these fella's now and check their poses - that's a mind-worm if ever there was one! I'm sure I've seen the design somewhere else - the alien's windpipe seems to suggest it was once an air pipe that is now fused to it! Exposed trachea are quite unsettling!
DeleteThe silver alien with the drill held aloft on its shoulder is also an LP pose. I suppose that the double gunslinger alien in the middle could be a version of the same gunslinger in the LP range too, just two guns instead of one?
ReplyDeleteThanks for helping me ID those Martians! Back in the late 60s we brought them in neighborhood stores for a nickel full of horrible sugary candy we never ate. They had a belly button and could be filled with water to squirt... For some reason I thought them evil and used them as bad guys
ReplyDeleteNow I find them cute!
Glad we could help FJ. Those sugary aliens had nothing but sweet intentions.
