Some things I just can't remember. In fact I'm not even sure if they are real at all. There are some things which loiter in the very borders of my memory like phantoms.
For instance I seem to recall a TV programme in the Sixties where people were hanging out of windows taking to each other. It was like a large wall full of windows or shutters, which opened.
Another one is some sort of recollection that I had a plastic shaver set. Everything was there: razor blade, plastic razor, the lot. It all clipped together I think.
Another faint memory were some sort of small blocks made of compressed powder. They were coloured in pastel colours and were very light. They clinked when you tapped anything with them. For some reasom the Mattel Strange Change Machine has popped in my head writing this!
What do you thunk readers? ring any bells?
The TV programme you're thinking of might be Rowen and Martin's Laugh In, Woodsy.
ReplyDeleteI remember Rowen and Martin. Keith Lemon does a parody of it on his show. The blocks of powder were jacks or stones, you threw them down and tossed a ball in the air. The object was to snatch as many as possible before the ball hit the ground. I had some wooden ones with fluted sides like the back of a fig biscuit.
ReplyDeleteThere were also sequences in the 1960s Batman where celebrities leaned out of windows to pass the time of day with Batman & Robin- there is an amusing compilation of these moments on Youtube.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys. Very helpful. I'm leaning towards Rowan and Martin's Laugh In for the wall although the Batman idea is interesting too. For some reason the Banana Splits Show or even the Double Deckers have popped in my head too! I shall consult the oracle that is You Tube.
ReplyDeleteAs for the clinking bricks I'm really not sure Bill. I have no recollection of chucking a ball in the air - other than superballs - and grabbing stones. Sounds a cool game though! They may have been blocks of powder paint. If only we could shine a big torch on those oldest of memories.
