Fellow collector and Anderson fan Daniel Genis from the US of A has kindly sent me some pics of his collection, which he's happy to have blogged. Daniel has put this lot together in just 12 months!
He has managed to find loads of die-cast Dinky Gerry Anderson toys like the Armoured Command Car, MSV, FAB1, SPV and many many more, which can't have been easy in the States.
Daniel is just starting to repair some of them as well. He tells me that none of his American friends have heard of Gerry Anderson. Well, we have and your'e in good company here! Enjoy!
You can read about Daniel on his own site www.danielgenis.net
Brilliant collection!
ReplyDeleteRemarkably, Daniel and I attended the same high school and had the same writing teacher several years apart, which is not a coincidence I was expecting to come across reading this blog! However, it must be said he's spent his time since then in more interesting ways than I have.
ReplyDeleteBlimey, what a small world Richard! Just shows the unifying force of space toys, perhaps the strongest force in the Universe!
DeleteRichard, you share the honorable instinct for discretion that Paul Woods masterfully deployed in his post by not mentioning why my collection only dates back a year! I am grateful, but I've made a career out of the ten years I served in prison by writing about it. It was my foot in the door, my path towards an agent and a book deal, the seed of both my columns and everything else I've written. Inside I trained myself to not get attached to any of my possessions, as I could lose them at any moment. Now that I've survived that and have a little disposable income (sobriety saves money!), I acquire what I consider the most compelling toys ever made... each is a little sculpture, a design achievement... I have Corgi's big Paddle Wagon on my desk as I type this, and I look at it to feel happy. Is it ridiculous? Let me just say this (no it isn't, by the way) to explain: my wife thought this was childish and a waste of money. Until she held my prizes in her hands, that is. Corgi's Bubble Car, Dinky's Lunar Rover, and the Fab 1 (which she calls 'Penelope') changed her opinion... she urges me to bid now and helps me sell the extra pieces in my eBay store. Such is the power of space toys, as Woodsy put it!
