There's been lots of toy LEMs on the blog over the years.
This red exhaust LEM in the collection of Paul Kaiju above caught my eye again. It came in a plain box by the looks of it.
I couldn't help noticing a similarity to my Tri-ang SpaceX LEM below.
Here's the red exhaust LEM again in two parts.
They do look similar but I suppose all LEMs look the same.
There are more pictures on the blog of the red exhaust LEM. These are Bill's
Reading Bill's article from 2009, MOONGAZING, his red exhaust LEM is by Clifford Toys and his half the size of the SpaceX version.
Here's the box via an old Ebay auction.
Here's the same toy [I think] by Ahi coutesy of an old Ebay auction, this time in a plastic case!
So can the red exhaust LEM by Clifford and Ahi be seen as a smaller copy of the Triang SpaceX LEM or am I squeezing this particular LEM too hard?
Hey Woodsy, Ive got both toys and can report that although cosmetically similar, the Clifford toy is a different beast altogether. Its a fair bit smaller, much more delicate and has some fine detail on the rear of the command module. Ill get some shots up soon.
ReplyDeleteI only have pictures of the Clifford set, but comparing them to my Spacex version I had come to much the same conclusion as Bill. Though to my mind the transparent capsule on the Clifford toy could very well have been inspired by the Spacex version.

Cheers Guys. Another mystery solved. I was wondering if you have any views about the proposed size and make of the illustrated LEM in the Moon Base Play Set picture in the SWORD Official Manual?
ReplyDeleteNone whatsoever I'm afraid, Woodsy. Anybody's guess until such a set would actually turn up...
