Apart from the Century 21 Jiggy Kids jigsaw I won on Fleabay a few weeks back [which never arrived] I haven't got anything for my collection for ages.
To be honest, Project SWORD stuff is getting harder to find, especially as there's just a few elusive and unusual bits and bobs that I need now. I'm at a sort of impasse.
Ironically, the QUEST US TV show Toy Hunter has rekindled my passion for all types of vintage toys and I'm really enjoying re-reading all my old reference books on action figures and TV toys [anyone else seen the show?]
Have you got anything for your collection or display shelf of late readers or are you suffering from collectors' block too?
I just completed a trade with Scoop for some sorely needed spare parts, but that's it here as well. The toys left on my want list aren't exactly common, so those will take patience and luck. But at least I'm resisting the temptation to get diverted with something vaguely related just to get my collecting fix!

Here too collecting has slowed. As temps will begin to reach 113° by this weekend, collecting isn't the only thing that's gonna slow down! My last acquisition was a couple of weeks ago - nice Kurt Adler Batmobile X-Mas tree ornament
ReplyDeleteNo where on the league as most of you when it comes to collecting but here is a suggestion.
ReplyDeleteHowever long it takes, do an inventory.
Reorganize your storage and display items
I did something like this every year to 18 months and discovered:
Had too many dupes so I sold or gave away
"Rediscovered" another line I initially didnt like
Got rid of a lot of stuff just for the sake of
Conclusion:(in no order!)
Displays had a fresh and better presentation
Wife was so happy of these efforts she is rarely gets on my case about it
Found some real gems that had dupes and got some good deals cash/swaps
Thanks for the wise words above.
ReplyDeleteI believe for the most of us collectors, there never seems to be enough time to go back to one's previous acquisitions. Some even explain this reluctance by comparing collectors - an apt comparison or not - to sharks: it's sink or swim, as if the only movement possible is the eternal forward.
It is most true that one should from time to time make a proper re-evaluation of one's true interests, instead of waiting for those few impossible items still missing from the collection. After all, it is those few precious wants that keep us collectors alive, well - and keeping on collecting.
Cheers Arto
Just in case somebody reads this 2 days later :)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous is very right (and I'm curious who you might be btw?).
I too have discovered I'm a bit richer than I thought in owning a few more examples than I remembered. And I've rediscovered stuff I couldn't recall at all having. :)
Part of the sorting out I'm doing is to make room for a new display, so couldn't agree more.
And very good point about the inventory (my eldest son once said something similar) and I really ought to get to grips with it, esp on the more esoteric stuff.
