This is a Destination Moon Base Alpha press book I picked up at an early Fanderson convention. The organisers were giving them away free along with the poster.
As many of you will know the film was made from putting two episodes of the second season of Space 1999 together - ‘The Bringers Of Wonder’ parts 1 & 2, along with additional footage from one or two other episodes.
The artwork is by artist Tom Chantrell, who designed posters for many Hammer and Carry on films, as well as the original Star Wars poster.
For the nitpickers it shows a Hawk ship which doesn’t actually appear, and Maya wearing a dress from the episode, ‘One Moment In Humanity‘, which is not used. In spite of that it’s still a cracking piece of artwork.
Although, I imagine the producers would have had a theatrical release in mind, the first time I saw it was on home video. I’m told it did make it to the cinema in Denmark!
I even got a special envelope to put it in.

Nice post Scoop, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI loved the first season of Space 1999 but was not to keen on the second.
Saying that, the two parter "The Bringers Of Wonder" was the best of the second series....along with "The Beta Cloud".
Thanks eviled. I agree with you, first season was better all round.
ReplyDeleteIs there any convention you haven't been to Scoop? ha ha! You should be Fanderson's archivist! How do you keep your paper collectables looking so good?
