Hi Paul, I came across your blogger site while doing some research online today. You might be interested in what I have. While cleaning out an old abandoned self storage unit recently, I came across a mailing tube that had a sticker stating it was from Northrop Nortronics Public Relations department and the US postage stamp on it shows that it was mailed to the recipent January 4th, 1965 so that gives an idea into the age of the items inside. The mail tube held a series of prints that show various space flight concepts. The prints are on good quality paper with a textured appearance and are in remarkable condition for their age. Three of the prints show an artists signature that I am unable to make out but I have included photos of them in this email. I thought these may be of interest to your blog followers. Enjoy the photos!

THE LAST PRINT HAS A LOOK OF THE NORTHROP X-15D, A DELTA WINGED DEVELOPMENT OF THE STANDARD X-15 WHICH WOULD HAVE HAD ORBIT CAPABLE ENGINES.
ReplyDeleteNO IDEA WHAT THAT SIGNATURES SAYS
The signature looks like LE then something and then Wood? Ring any bells anyone?
ReplyDeleteThat fourth painting is my favourite. I could easily see that hanging in my office.
ReplyDeleteI've just managed to decypher the signature and found him: Jack Leynnwood.
ReplyDeleteAnd we're in luck: there's an article about him in an aviation mag (featuring painting #2 on the cover) over at the Box Art Den:

(pass this on to Daz as well please? He's just made us discover another star to our pantheon of artists! :)

Fab research Paul! I'll be sure to pass the info onto to Daz. Well done that man!
ReplyDeleteJudging by the article on Jack at Box Art den, its highly likely that these paintings are prints of the designs reproduced in the lobby of Northrop Nucleonics HQ building.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the excellent research Paul and for the link to the artist. It would seem that lucked out when I stumbled across these prints given their rarity. I am going to frame them and keep at least 4, the other 2 which I have doubles of I will probably put up for sale.
ReplyDeleteThanks again!
