Here's something you don't often see on Ebay - spare tailfins for the glorious SEARS 3-STAGE ROCKET of the ROCKET BASE pictured below, an amazing 1960's American SWORD forerunner that combined the Apollo Saturn Rocket and a sort of Cape Kennedy Set. I have only ever seen it in pictures and specifically those that blog reader Darth kindly posted way back in the first few weeks of the blog in 2008. Testimony to how rare even the pictures are of the set online is the fact that the Ebay seller has used the very same pictures of the rocket and box posted here back then! Wonder what happened to the rest of the rocket?

I have this set in the box. Battery leaked inside of it tho, so not in great condition. Can you tell me what it is worth?
ReplyDeleteThese rare sets go for several hundred dollars in mint condition in the US and Canada. Obviously damage and the amount of damage to the box and/or the toy will reduce the value considerably but it will still be of interest to collectors. You might consider selling the parts seperately but personally, as a collector, I would rather see the whole thing in one go. Ebay is a great place to let a worldwide buying audience see your iem. Hope this helps.

ReplyDeleteI agree, I wouldn't want to separate it out at all. Perhaps I shall list it on eBay in the next month or two. Just the bottom of the Rocket is damaged. Any suggestions on how to clean off the corrosion?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Tina
depending on the extent of the corrosion, a little light sanding with fine grade glasspaper will do it. Just taking off enough to make the brass contacts shine ought to make the motor stir. If the contacts are eaten away by acid from the batteries, clean off any green residue with a soft cloth where possible and consider replacing the contacts asap. If listing for sale, state clearly and show photos of damage.
ReplyDeleteWell, I just listed it on eBay. Hopefully someone is interested in it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your help
Tina
Best of luck Tina!
