BYGONE TIMES

 Me and the Missus were taken to Bygone Times this weekend by our friend Bill. Located in Lancashire, England, this venue is easily the biggest antiques emporium we've ever seen. Vintage toys galore along with thousands of collectables and retro in five linked warehouses, its a day out in itself!

Not doing justice in any way to sheer amount of stuff on sale, here are a few snaps I took to give you a taste. Enjoy!

FRANKENSTEIN ON THE MOORS

 We've been sorting piles of old photos at Moonbase.

As soon as I saw this I remembered what was above my head [I'm on the right]!

Its a Marx tinplate Frankenstein!

Just when I'd started out collecting toys I saw this Frankie in this Beck Hole pub bar in the Yorkshire Moors circa 1990.

Mulling it over once home I then wrote to the bar owners - a proper handwritten letter with an SAE! - and asked if they'd sell it.

They didn't but they served a great half-pint!

Hot Wheels Lightyear Armadillo

From the 2022 Disney Pixar movie Lightyear is this Hot Wheels model of the Armadillo. A transport craft used by Buzz Lightyear and his team.

Hot Wheels have produced a number of Lightyear models. There is a dedicated die-cast Lightyear range, action figure vehicles, and several models spread across various other ranges, such as Monster Trucks, and the Mainline. Models of the Armadillo are included in the Lightyear line, the action figure series (including one in bronze), and a mini version in the Mainline.

The latter was a new model for 2022, and is included in the Screen Time sub-series of film, television, and video game models.

The Armadillo is short and dumpy, but tall. There is something about the shape of the body and the projecting cockpit section, that reminds me of K-9 from Doctor Who.

The model is a slightly purplish blue, with orange and black tampo printing, a white number 2 and wing logo. Only the upper portion of the body is metal, the lower cargo pod section is plastic, with a black plastic base - this includes the fore and aft cargo doors. The cockpit windows are smoke-tinted. Just visible are two seats. The model runs on four small, concealed wheels. Overall length 58 mm.

The base carries the model name Armadillo; Hot Wheels logo, Mattel, and Disney/Pixar names; the copyright date 2021; and Made in Malaysia.

A SHELTERED LIFE

This strange construction is the capped entrance of a cold war two-man underground shelter not too far from Moonbase. 

A sobering structure to say the least, it sits on top of a ridge commanding superb views of a big sky.
