Days of Disaster

Bill Pullman was the president in Independence Day. Me and the Missus are enjoying seeing him again in a TV series called the Sinner, in which he plays a retired detective visiting a remote American island.

I liked his role in Independence Day. The straight presidential arrow at the heart of the crisis. The film caught a moment at the time. A bit like Deep Impact. Impending doom? I'm unsure now what that moment was. I enjoyed the film and always associate it with Deep Impact, Twister and Dante's Peak. 

Armageddon is another disaster flick from that era but I prefer ID4 and Deep Impact for some reason.

THREE WHEELED RAZZO

I love this old rocket pedal car from 1968.

It reminds me of several old space toys like the SpaceX Cruiser.

SKYLAB: IT'S GOT MY BACKING

 

Pegasokid got it right with this neat plastic Space Station I saw on auction.

Part of a set, this cool little Skylab has a real SpaceX vibe to it I think and would look great on Tri-ang or Golden Astronaut backing card!

Oddly enough I think this space station is on the wrong card itself, which is for a space explorer!

A Plastic Lawn Mower?

I've just mown the lawn for the first time this year.

I seem to remember having a a plastic lawnmower when I was a kid in the 60s.

Maybe it was one of those heavy mowers with a large roller at the rear. This was the sort of mower my parents had before getting a petrol machine. 

This memory could be completely fabricated but I do have have a very vague feeling that I had one. Does this this ring any bells with you?

Superman Returns. But did He?

I caught Superman Returns on TV yesterday. I'd seen it before around 2007 but couldn't recall a thing about it. I can remember everything about Chris Reeves' films and Snyder's Man of Steel, which followed Returns some years later but zilch about Returns itself.

I think that's it's problem. Spacey and co create very little action or drama or anything really. It lacks zing. Even the pivotal scene of the new landmass growing in the sea is lacklustre. 

I think the final nail is the fact that I don't know the name of the Superman actor. Never a good sign!

Am I being super harsh?

DIE-CAST RESTORATION MACHINE! I WANT ONE!

I liked this gimmick, a scrap die-cast restoring machine made of mecano! Its daft but fun! What do you think?
