THUNDERBIRDS SCALEX BOAT BY KEVIN

Hi Moonbase

I picked up this Scalex boat off ebay recently, it is used as a background craft (in these colours) in Thunderbirds and it looks like they used the basic hull on several boats in Anderson series from Stingray onwards. I thought it would make a nice bit of extra detail as well as a very easy studio scale replica!

I post this clip from You Tube every year I know, but the graphics and especially the score are so spectacular I can't help it! I've read that the narrow ships were meant to be vast five mile long craft.

A lovely lady who talked about how Maya's make up was toned down and her opinion on her Adventurer co -star, Gene Barry.

All That Scratching is Making Me Itch

Lately, after seeing Kevin's scratchbuilds and Scoops dioramas, I've been itching to build something myself. The Mars Mission Sherbet Shuttle appeared as a result and while I was busily rooting about in the parts box, I found a plastic disk with a clear dome lodged in it. Almost immediately, the next project presented itself! Next to the orange and white rocket, one of the most ubiquitous toys in the space sets was always the Bubble Car. They appear usually as above with a green base and red canopy. Now and again a clear canopy version appears and even another kind with legs!

So, my next build was another quickie, two plastic domes, a disk from a light fitting, a screw cap, wheels off a Power Rangers toy and the chassis from a crane. The pilot is an MPC astronaut!

China's Alibaba is partly being floated on the New York stock exchange. Its bigger than Amazan and Ebay together. One of the biggest retailers in the world. Maybe its solely for China? I've never bought anything from them online. Have you?

Wow, cool blog! I can see I'll be spending some time here in the future, even though I didn't see any toys from my youth that I recognized at a quick glance. Of course, I'd be pleased to have you use my image of Lunar Missile Warhead Release on your blog [above]. 

The toy Booster Rocket you're talking about  reminds me of a plastic model kit I built as a kid. It was a Revell kit called XSL-01 [below]. It had detachable boosters and an orbital space plane quite similar.

SPACE TOOB BLUES

Are there any cheap plastic space toys in the discount shops near you? When up town I try to check out Poundland, Pound World and the 99p Store. Pickings have been very very slim though. 

The set I hope they'll stock is the Space Toob, pictured below, but as yet no luck. It remains an internet item and quite pricey. Maybe the chain The Works may stock it at some point? Have you found anything readers?

MATTEL EAGLE 1 SPACESHIP

One toy that I've had my eye on for quite while is the fabulous Eagle 1 which Mattel produced in 1976.

Ever since I saw our very own Wotan's toy Eagle I've been on the look out for a reasonable and not ridiculously priced example.

The big problem is finding one that isn't damaged or missing parts, and those all important accessories. 

Thankfully, a lovely affordable example has finally come my way, and what a beauty it is. Two and a half  feet of precious plastic. 

It comes with five action figures - three standing and two seated.

Each has a removable space helmet and space pack.

 Each has a likeness of either Commander Koenig, Doctor Helena Russell, or Prof, Bergman.

It has a working winch. The hook is lowered through a hatch in the centre of the central pod.

It also comes with 4 pistols and 1 laser rifle.(mine did come with just the one pistol, but as a bonus, two rifles) These sit on a weapon rack next to the winch.

The instruction leaflet comes in  useful as a checklist for everything.

I could just wax lyrical about this superb Gerry Anderson toy. The accessories give it great play value and its sheer size is just awesome.
